Shampoos that contain “piroctone olamine” reduce and may eliminate dandruff by killing the fungal infections that cause dandruff and other scalp conditions. It is also thought that piroctone olamine reduces hair loss and helps promote hair growth. Here’s a quote from Tony Maleedy who has studied the effects of piroctone olamine on hair growth:
When certain anti-microbial substances, traditionally used to treat dandruff, are incorporated into a shampoo at elevated levels they have a significant effect in the prevention of male pattern hair loss.
