I am a 21 year old female and for the last 2 years my hair has been falling out. I feel so foolish for leaving it this long, just thought it would correct itself, but the last couple of months it has just got so bad. My hair is now really thin and is so unhealthy. Also, my scalp is very dry and itchy. Always has been but I’ve never thought to link the two together. My hair is dull and lifeless and every time i touch it, I am guaranteed to have hair fall. I dread having to wash my hair because of the amount of hair loss. I did have a baby 5 years ago, so dunno if that’s part of the problem. Hormones? Do you think my problem if DHT related? Looking forward to hearing back.

The fact that your hair is very dull and unhealthy looking tells me that you need to feed it. Providing your body with a massive abundance of the exact nutrients needed for hair growth would be a good start for you.

The best advice I can give you is to intensely feed your hair using the instructions in the nutrition chapter of my eBook. In that chapter you also learn how to improve your hormonal balance by feeding your ‘prostaglandins’, which regulate hormones.

Reducing your DHT levels might also be a good idea. I would recommend having your DHT levels checked by a doctor first though. At your age DHT is less likely to be a problem.

In the eBook I explain how to remove DHT from the scalp and block DHT production in the body. It is a difficult regime to follow though, so you might want to wait until edition 2 of the eBook is released this spring, which is easier to follow and even more effective. Alternatively download edition 1 (current edition) and sign-up in the members area for a free copy of edition 2 (all my edition 1 buyers get a free copy of edition 2) — that way you get both.

In edition 2 I also explain how to clear up problems that cause an itchy scalp — this is touched on in edition 1 but is covered in more detail in edition 2.

The eBook is available to download here.

You also get a free 8 part audio program that helps train your mind to reduce your stress levels. This is useful in stopping stress related hair loss.

I am losing hair after pregnancy. Can I reverse it?

Hair loss after pregnancy is quite common. It is caused by hormonal changes that cause the growth phases of the hair to go out of sync. As a result you can experience excess hair loss some months after giving birth.

Usually the hair growth phases will get back into sync and the hair will regain its original thickness but sometimes this does not occur and the hair can remain thin or get even thinner.

The condition can be worsened by increased stress and reduced sleep (due to caring for the baby at night). The combination of increased stress and much less sleep can result in a reduction of nutrients available to feed the hair because the body is drained of nutrients.

The best way to treat hair loss after pregnancy

Post-pregancy hair loss can treated with a healthy diet, stress management (including some exercise, quality sleep and relaxation time) and the use of some nutrient rich superfoods that feed the hair, helping it grow and remain in the growth phase for longer.

To kick start your hair back into growth, I would recommend feeding the hair with the special combination of nutrients I describe in the nutrition section of my eBook. I also explain how to use two very special superfoods that together help improve hormonal balance and increase the hairs growth phase. This is precisely what you need to get your hair growing thick again post-pregnancy.

If you are suffering from stress or finding it hard to wind down after a hectic day, leave the stress-relieving audio programme (which comes free with my eBook) running in the background while you relax or go about your day and follow my stress relief tips to help you wind down and maximise your relaxation time.

In my eBook I also explain several special Yoga moves that help improve digestion, blood circulation and further relieve stress, to help further improve health and the condition of your hair.

Some of the instructions in the eBook are designed for people suffering severe hair loss and will be too extreme for you. Ignore Step 1, which is all about the scalp and concentrate on the nutrition and stress chapters. Some of the instructions in the circulation chapter will help boost your hair growth but some of this will also be too extreme for you.

I am afraid that i may have traction alopecia from wearing braids and putting chemicals in my hair so now my sides are ruined. My question is, is there any way lost hair follicles can be revived?

Yes, to some extent. First of all stop tying your hair up tightly right now and don’t braid your hair. Never wear your hair so tight that you can feel the hair being pulled away from the scalp. This ‘trains’ the hair bulb to grow closer and closer to the scalp surface, until eventually the bulb is no longer able to receive nutrient supply from the bloodstream and stops growing.

Follow my instructions carefully

Every day, once or twice a day, massage the area of your scalp that has been affected by the traction alopecia. Make sure your hands are clean – wash them well before beginning the massage. Massage for 15 minutes each time.

The aim of the massage is to increase the elasticity of the skin you are massaging. So you want to move the skin around with your fingers, encouraging it to warm up and become more elastic and flexible. Don’t slide your fingers over your scalp – just wobble your scalp around as much as possible, without pulling on the hair. If you can’t perform this massage without pulling on the hair, massage around the hair.

Doing this will help increase blood circulation in the scalp, which will help bring nutrients to the hair. Some of the effected hair will have started growing closer to the scalps surface. So we want to increase the skins elasticity, warm the skin and increase blood circulation in order to help the hair grow deeper again.

It’s possible that with time, if you stop pulling your hair tight and concentrate on improving the skins elasticity and promoting blood circulation, that the hair will start to regrow.

My mother is having hairloss and she has tried many treatments for it but with no results. Can you give me some tips for hairloss please?

Thanks for your question. There are several key things you can do to help promote hair growth. Here are a few tips:

1. Increase circulation in the scalp

By increasing blood circulation in the scalp you increase the supply of nutrients to the hair, which helps feed the hair.

Tip: Give your mum a nice scalp massage every day for a few minutes. This will help increase blood flow at the surface of the scalp.

2. Reduce ‘DHT’ in the scalp

DHT (the hormone that causes hairloss) is the most significant cause of hair loss. It’s far more prevalent in men, but women’s DHT levels can increase, particularly during menopause. If you really want to tackle DHT I would suggest downloading my eBook and following the instructions. However the following tip may also be of help…

Tip: Try using an anti-DHT shampoo every morning. Massage the shampoo into the scalp well each morning, leave on for a minute and rinse well.

See article: 6 Anti DHT Shampoos — Shampoos that Block DHT

3. Eat foods that promote hair growth

Iron deficiency can cause hair loss. It’s worth getting a blood test from your doctor to see if your mum has an iron deficiency. This can then be treated and may stop the hair loss.

Tip: Eat green leafy vegetables such as baby leaf spinach, watercress and rocket daily as these are rich in iron. Also eat a portion of oily fish such as mackerel or salmon once a week for the omega-3. For a complete list of foods that promote hair growth and a detailed guide on nutrition that supports hair growth, download my eBook.

4. Exercise

This may seem like the obvious “yes you should exercise because it’s good for your health”, but it is really important. Exercise helps reduce stress, which is also a major cause of hair loss. It also helps improve circulation, which again is good for your hair.

Tip: If your mum is able to, I highly recommend getting at least 20 minutes sustained gentle exercise every day, such as walking and some more intense exercise such as swimming or cycling, three times a week.

5. Supplement your diet

I don’t usually recommend supplements because the superfoods I list in my eBook are far better than any supplement available on the market, but in some cases it can be easier and more convenient to use a hair loss supplement like Nourkrin. Also, I think this can help psychologically because it can help you feel as if you are doing something every day to stop the hair loss.

Tip: Take a look at my recommended hair loss treatments page to see what I recommend for women and men.

Do you have any hair loss tips?

Have you tried something and found it really helped improve your hair? Let us know in the comments…

I had PCOD and was in Oral Contraceptives for 5 years of my life. As soon as I left them, I lost massive amount of hair from the frontal side of the scalp. I am sure DHT is the culprit.

I did not try anything medication yet. Just on keratin and protein tablets and Anaphase shampoo. Please suggest what I can do to immediately stop this hair loss and also regrow hair..Please help!

If the hair loss occurred as a result of coming off the pill, it’s likely that this is temporary hair loss and it *should* stop naturally. However I would strongly advise giving your hair a helping hand (as big a helping hand as possible).

I’d advise having your blood tested for low iron levels and hypothyroidism as a first step.

If all clear on those points follow the steps I explain in my eBook. The key factors for you are:

to make sure you remove any built-up DHT from your scalp, which may be inhibiting growth and causing further hair loss

To increase blood circulation in the scalp as much as possible to help feed the hair

To consume foods that provide your body with an abundance of the raw materials required for growing hair

I also explain how to normalise your hormonal balance in the eBook, which will be particularly useful to you.

If you follow the instructions in the eBook you should have no trouble stopping your hair loss and regrowing lost hair. Some of the instructions are designed for more severe cases of hair loss than yours, but actually, these are all worth doing – as I think it’s worth doing everything you can to help kick your hair back in to ‘growth mode’.

You can download the eBook from here:

http://www.nicehair.org/hair-loss-ebook

If you download my eBook you also get access to my personal email address so you can contact me as often as you like, as well as the 8 track audio program for training your mind to react calmly in stressful situations.

The past few years my hair is very thin just above my forehead. My scalp is showing. The rest of hair is still pretty thick. What can I do to regrow my hair? I do not take prescription meds and eat a healthy diet. As a female with thin hair on the top of head it is very upsetting!

It is fairly common for women to start noticing their hair becoming dry, brittle and getting lots of split ends. This is often an early sign that the hair is experiencing a major problem, that won’t just stop here. A reduction in hair quality might simply be a result of regular dying or heat treatments, but if you’re not dying or heat treating your hair and it starts getting dry and brittle there’s a good chance you’re on the road to hair loss.

Hair loss is usually a very slow process. It usually starts with the hair becoming dryer and brittle. This stage may last for several years before hair loss becomes noticeable. It’s hugely important to combat the problem as early as possible if you want to stop it before it gets bad.

Why is this happening?

Dryness and brittleness are signs that your hair is lacking something essential. At first it affects the quality of the hair, but in time the hair will not be able to survive without this essential element.

My top tips to prevent or stop female hair loss early

If you’ve noticed your hair has become dryer, more unmanageable or even thinner than it used to be, follow these steps early, before it’s too late:

Get your iron levels checked

Get a health check. Ask your doctor to check for an iron deficiency among other things. Iron is required for healthy hair. If there is an iron deficiency, the hair (being a non-essential feature of the body) will suffer as the body directs resources to essential functions.

You may think you have a healthy diet but iron deficiency is one of the most common deficiency (perhaps the most) in the UK, despite relatively healthy diets. It’s worth making sure you eat green leafy vegetables such as baby leaf spinach on a regular basis as these contain lots of iron and other vitamins and minerals. Egg yolks are also a good source of iron and other nutrients that benefit the hair.

Top tip: Eat one or two poached egg and green leaf salads with asparagus and a drizzle of flax seed oil per week for a boost in nutrients for hair growth.

Check for hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is fairly common in women over 35 and one of the symptoms is hair loss. The condition causes the thyroid gland to become overactive, which in turn increases metabolism. This can make sufferers experience anxiety, weight loss and hair loss.

While you are getting your health check ask to have your thyroid checked.

Check for allergies

It’s also worth having the standard allergy tests, such as wheat, gluten and dairy. You can do this yourself by eliminating each food group, one at a time, and analysing how you feel.

More information on allergy testing

How to actively encourage hair growth

Once you’ve completed the three checks explained above you can look at things you can actively do to improve the condition of your hair and encourage hair growth.

Hit stress on the head or say goodbye to your hair

Stress is a major cause of hair loss. It can sap the body of nutrients, leaving the hair with very little ‘resources’ to construct new hair with. If you often feel tense (especially in your neck and shoulders), find it hard to sleep, worry a lot or get angry frequently, these psychological stresses may be causing your hair loss. It’s important you deal with this because if you don’t, it will not only affect your hair, it will also have a negative impact on your overall health.

I have dedicated a chapter of my eBook to changing g the way you deal with stressful situations, so that you can train your mind to be more relaxed at all times. I’ve accompanied this with an 8 part audio programme to help you conquer stress for good. I’m giving this audio programme away free at the moment. You can download the package here.

Eat foods that encourage hair growth

The hair is made of keratin, which comes from protein. So you need protein in your diet for hair growth. But that doesn’t mean you need to eat lots of meat. You don’t see horses walking around with no hair because they don’t eat meat. There is protein in vegetables as well as meat, dairy and fish. My top tip for your diet is to buy an ‘Omega 3’ oil. Buy a high quality organic cold pressed extra virgin oil. Consume a tablespoon of this a day and you will reap the benefits within 2 weeks – just watch!

Top tip: Buy an omega 3 oil and eat a tablespoon a day.

For more tips like this download my eBook, which has a whole chapter dedicated to nutrition.

Make sure your scalp is in good condition

Your scalp can be difficult to clean because it’s covered in hair. Many people don’t wash their hair every day, yet they wash their faces every day. I sometimes advise people to not wash their hair every day, but there is a problem with this – your scalp can become dirty and with time the pores can become blocked. It’s important that you keep your scalp in excellent condition if you want it to grow thick strong hair. When you wash your hair, make sure you wash your scalp well. Massage your scalp with the shampoo and rinse the scalp thoroughly. But PLEASE use a good shampoo.

I have a list of good shampoos here. Choose one that sticks to these guidelines.

Top tip: Switch your horrible supermarket bought shampoo for an organic SLS-free shampoo.

I also have a chapter in my book dedicated to completely renewing the scalp to change it from ‘hair loss mode’ to ‘hair growth mode’.

Improve the blood circulation in your scalp

Hair needs nutrients in order to grow. Those nutrients are carried to the hair in the blood. By increasing blood flow in the scalp you can help feed your hair and promote hair growth. There are several products on the market that can be used to promote circulation in the scalp, including laser combs, Minoxidil products (like Rogaine), the Dermaroller, the Magi-grow and several more.

I think the Dermaroller is a superb product, well worth investing in, but you don’t need any of these products to improve circulation in your scalp. I’ve dedicated a chapter of my eBook to ‘turbo-charging blood circulation in the scalp to promote hair growth’. You guessed it, you can download it here!

Exercise and sleep

I can’t stress enough how important it is to exercise regularly and sleep well. If you get both of these things right you will help with all of the points above. Exercising helps reduce stress and improve circulation. Lack of sleep increases stress levels and also increases your need to eat. Often though, when you’re stressed you’re more tempted to eat unhealthily. If you’re sleeping well and exercising regularly you will feel more composed and able to live life the way you want to. Of course if you’re really stressed to begin with these things are easier said than done. That’s why I’ve included the subliminal mind training audio files in my stress fighting audio programme, which can train your brain while you sleep, work or exercise!

If you’re really worried that your hair is falling out, you need to do everything you can to stop it.

My eBook focuses largely on hormone based hair loss. Hormonal imbalance is one of the the underlying cause of ‘androgenic alopecia’ (hair loss relating to the male sex hormones). However my instructions are in fact highly relevant to female hair loss sufferers as well.

Achieving well balanced hormones is vitally important for healthy hair growth. However this can be more difficult for men due to overwhelmingly large amounts of DHT (the primary cause of male pattern baldness) produced in some men. For women though, DHT is less of a problem. Therefore achieving hormonal balance in women (with regard to hair growth) is less of a challenge, than it is for men.

For women I believe other factors are more important for stopping hair loss and regrowing hair. These are stress and diet. I devote a chapter to each of these subjects, dealing with them in as much detail as possible.

If you can alleviate stress to a good level, your body will start working with far greater ease and efficiency. This will benefit your digestive system and your hormones. If your diet includes a massive abundance of all the right ‘building blocks’ for hair growth AND nutrients required for the prolonging of the hairs growth phase, your diet will help prevent hair shedding and increase hair growth.

These are all important factors for women. Achieving the correct balance in your body and treating your scalp so that it becomes the correct, healthy environment for hair growth is how I and my eBook readers have stopped hair loss and regrown hair.

You’re quite welcome to try it and if it’s not for you, collect your refund. None of my customers have ever asked for a refund and I believe that is because my eBook is quite simply the most comprehensive guide to stopping hair loss naturally, from the comfort of your home.
