The 3 More Inches products work by coating the hair in a protective layer designed to prevent protein loss caused when weak hair is damaged by heat or day-to-day wear.
The hair shaft is made of a protein called keratin. Keratin is comprised of amino acids and sulfur (mostly cysteine). Research has shown that the structure of the hair shaft is vulnerable to damage, particularly when the hair is wet: little bits of the hair break off from the shaft. When this happens it’s catastrophic for the appearance of hair. The hairs can split and become spindly and frizzy.
By coating the hair in hydrolyzed keratin, panthenol and linalool it’s possible to protect the surface of each hair, which can prevent the hair from damaging.
The hair will still continue to grow at exactly the same rate, but it’s less likely to get damaged.
Does 3 More Inches Actually Make Your Hair Grow?
The 3 More Inches products don’t actually increase hair growth, but they do protect the hair and this is also important if you want to grow your hair longer. If you don’t protect your hair from damage you won’t really be able to grow it longer because it will become damaged before it gets a chance to grow long.
This is actually very important for hair growth
Hair grows very slowly. In fact, it takes several years to grow your hair even to shoulder length. So just think about that: the hair below your shoulders is hundreds or even thousands of days old. That means it might have been brushed and washed thousands of times — each time potentially breaking the shafts. And each hair is extremely thin. Imagine all the times during the day you could damage your hair when you brush it, or run your fingers through it, or even just scratching your head while contemplating the meaning of life.
Now just think, you have to make that hair survive for years! So it’s important to protect it.
But what can you do if you want to increase hair growth?
How can you make your hair grow faster, thicker and stronger?
If you actually want to make your hair truly stronger, longer and healthier, the best thing you can do is increase the growth factor VEGF in your scalp. VEGF, or vascular endothelial growth factor, is required for the development of the tiny blood vessels in your scalp which connect to your hair.
Here’s the important bit:
Your hair only grows when it’s connected to a blood vessel. VEGF is required to maintain those blood vessels. When VEGF levels decrease the hair stops growing and enters the resting phase. And that means it disconnects from the blood vessel.

However, research has shown that by increasing scalp VEGF we can keep the hair in the growth phase for longer, helping it to grow longer and stronger. Since the hair needs a constant blood supply in order to grow, by increasing scalp VEGF we can keep the hair growing longer, enabling it to grow thicker, longer and stronger — also making it less likely to break.
So, of course, the all-important question is…
How can you increase scalp VEGF?
It’s actually very easy to increase scalp VEGF. There are many chemicals that are designed to do just that. One such chemical is called Minoxidil. If you want to grow your hair longer, stronger and thicker, I highly recommend using a Minoxidil based product. Minoxidil treatments are probably one of the most effective and simplest hair growth treatments.
I’ve reviewed what I believe to be the world’s best Minoxidil products. Ignore the fact that these are ‘hair loss treatments’. It doesn’t matter. If you want to make your hair grow longer, actually a hair loss treatment is exactly what you should use — particularly ones that stimulate blood circulation and reduce scalp inflammation.
I also recommend reading my article, which explains how to increase scalp VEGF.
What else should you do to make hair grow faster, longer and healthier?
Increasing blood circulation and scalp growth factors is certainly an effective way to make your hair healthier and to make it grow longer. In fact, it’s proven to work. But I do also recommend using a product to protect your hair. So a product like 3 More Inches is also worth using. Let’s take a look:

3 More Inches Ingredients Explained
Panthenol is a chemical derived from the B vitamin pantothenic acid. It works by coating the hair in a tiny layer, which hardens to form a protective coating on the hair shaft, which prevents protein loss.
Hydrolized keratin seems to increase the elasticity and hydration of hair. According to one study it has significant results:
Significant differences were found between the control and treated sites, with the treated areas showing an increase in hydration and elasticity as a result of keratin peptide application. Measurements also indicated that the keratin formulations reinforce the skin barrier integrity, improving its water-holding capacity.
What else can you do to increase hair growth?
The main component of keratin is an amino acid called cysteine. Research has shown that taking cysteine supplements can dramatically improve hair growth. See my article on cysteine for more details.
As well as increasing scalp VEGF and protecting your hair with a keratin treatment, I recommend taking a hair growth supplement that contains amino acids like cysteine.
