Thank you for your question. I recommend treating your dandruff as an important first step towards stopping your hair loss and regrowing your hair.
Dandruff tends to be caused by a fungal infection or a skin condition called “seborrhoeic dermatitis”.
One of the best and simplest ways to treat dandruff is with a shampoo that contains ketoconazole. Ketoconazole is a chemical that kills the fungi that cause dandruff.
See: 6 shampoos that contain ketozonazole.
Topical ketoconazole is also thought to reduce hair loss, so it’s well worth giving this a go as a first step. However, I must warn you that several members of nicehair.org have reported increased shedding as a result of using ketoconazole shampoo. This could be to do with the skin experiencing a mild initial “shock” after coming into contact with the ketoconazole, which stops after a few washes.
I still think this is the best first step to take for anyone who has both dandruff and hair loss.
In my eBook I explain a more thorough method for treating dandruff, which involves using an apple cider rinse, but this is part of a far more in-depth “scalp skin reset”, which has the aim of renewing the scalp skin.
All the best,
Chris
