Scientists believe that they may be able to cure baldness following the research they investigated in rat skin. The specific skin cell that they have focused in on are the “dermal papillae” cells, which have the ability to grow new hair follicles, even on skin that isn’t supposed to grow hair.
Although the experiments worked perfectly with mouse cells, when researchers tried it with the dermal papillae cells of a human, the cells didn’t cooperate.
In order to fight back, researchers found the difference in how human skin cells are grown. Flipping the petri dish they were using to conduct the experiment upside down, helped the cells clump together and cooperate more effectively.
Scientists have praised the work as a big step forward in the field of hair loss.
