Why did Da Vinci go bald?
I have a hypothesis that very intelligent people are more likely to go bald because (being more intelligent) they arguably have a greater capacity to think anxious thoughts.
As a result they may experience more stress than thick people.
Brainiacs like Elon Musk (who lost his hair very young and had a hair transplant), Steve Jobs and John Stuart Mill seem to support this hypothesis but there also seems to be a large number of brainiacs with full thick hair, so although I still think there is something to this hypothesis it is not as simple as a direct causal correlation.
In fact I suspect there is a more sophisticated relationship with a particular profile of hormones and intelligence level.
For example, brainiacs like Elon Musk and Leonardo Da Vinci both experienced ‘social rejection stress’ as young men — Elon Musk was brutally bullied and Da Vinci was homosexual during a time when it was strictly forbidden by the very people who employed him — the church.
Social rejection stress causes inflammation, which may be the reason for the premature hair loss.
See Why do some men never lose their hair
On the other hand, geniuses like Einstein and Bill Gates were probably the types of geeks who never cared about social rejection and therefore never experienced social rejection stress.
Until there are multiple studies to prove this hypothesis it remains just that. However, I suspect this is the real reason some men never lose their hair, so if you want to keep your hair, look into my article above.
