How Microneedling Enhanced Minoxidil Efficacy
The microneedling and minoxidil study used a 1.5 mm microneedling device and showed significant results:
Study Details
- Needle Size: 1.5 mm dermaroller.
- Frequency: Once weekly for 12 weeks.
- Technique: The dermaroller was rolled across the scalp in four directions (vertical, horizontal, and both diagonals) with 15-20 passes per area.
Results
Participants using microneedling and 5% minoxidil experienced a mean increase of 91.4 hairs in the target area after 12 weeks, compared to 22.2 hairs with minoxidil alone. (Source)
How to Perform Microneedling at Home
- Device: Use a 1.5 mm dermaroller or dermapen.
- Frequency: Perform microneedling once weekly.
- Technique: Roll gently over the scalp in all directions for uniform coverage.
- Aftercare: Apply 5% minoxidil to enhance absorption.
What do I do?
I personally use a 1mm dermaroller because in the research I’ve read there’s no improvement in results at lengths greated than 1mm. I’ll be honest I’ve been very lazy lately and haven’ty used the Dermaroller in quite some time, but when I do I use it once every 2 weeks with heavy pressure, causing occasional bleeding (maybe one 5-10 total visible tiny splodges of blood over the whole scalp). Then I would also sometimes do a light roling every day but I wouldn’t do this for at least 3 days after doing the harder pressure rolling — until I could feel it was healed.
When I was following the above regime I saw incredible results. Like I say I’ve been very lazy recently, so I’m not seeing anything like those results. I probably use the Growth Factors serum once per day and I haven’t used the Dermaroller for months. Having read the above I really should start again. Clearly this is the best method available in the world today.
